Okocim Porter from Browar Okocim S.A. (Carlsberg)
Rating: A-
Appearance: Opaque dark brown in the glass, nice head with good retention and lacing.
Smell: Very intriguing aroma. Molasses, chocolate, and roast. With a somewhat marine background that reminds me of the beach.
Taste: Very much along the same lines as the nose, with chocolate, roast, coffee, molasses... and the same mineral/marine character I found interesting in the nose. A touch of smoke. There might be a hint of anise here, as well, which is usually a flavor I detest, but if it's here it's still just under the threshold of being consciously recognizable.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body, low on carbonation that accentuates how "big" this beer is.
Drinkability: Good. It's different from every other porter - and even baltic porter - I've had, with those marine and extremely subtle anise notes. That said, perhaps a bit overrated.
Serving type: bottle
