Chamberlain Pale Ale from Shipyard Brewing Co.
Rating: B-
Admittedly suckered in by the Civil War-inspired packaging. Poured into my new favorite glass, the SA Boston Lager pint glass sent to BeerAdvocate Magazine founding subscribers.
Appearance: A rich amber in color, smallish head with mediocre retention. Clear. No lacing.
Smell: Weak hop aroma, not what I was expecting in a "pale ale" - I see now that it's classified on BA as an American Amber. Slightly soapy, Ringwood aroma, but not in an unpleasant way.
Taste: Malt profile says American Amber, yeast says English Pale Ale. Neither fits the APA I was expecting. Ringwood butteriness is apparent, decently bitter but lacking hop flavor.
Mouthfeel: Light-medium body, slightly slick. Good carbonation.
Drinkability: Moderate.
Serving type: bottle
